College Resources

It is important that you start early in choosing the classes and activities you need for your individual path.
While you are in charge of your own educational path and are responsible for letting your Counselor know what
courses you need to meet your goals, the counselors at Venture Academy are here to assist you with the process. We encourage
you to research the college or vocational program that interests you so that you get the most correct information on their
eligibility requirements. There is no one formula that guarantees admission to every college or program after high school.
If you would like assistance, please contact a counselor or the counseling center to schedule an appointment.

Community Colleges
Community colleges offer associate's degrees and/or certificate programs. There are no required high school courses you need to take in order to apply to a community college. You do not need to take the ACT or SAT. You will take a placement test after you apply which will determine which college English and math courses you can take, so it is suggested that you take rigorous courses in high school to prepare you for the placement test. You can transfer to a CSU, UC, or private college from a community college.

CSU
Entering a 4-year university straight out of high school is increasingly competitive. The earlier you start planning, the better. In order to apply to a CSU or UC, you must successfully complete ("C" or better) a series of high school courses that are certified as A-G. The A-G course sequence is available at the links below titled "Freshman Applicant Requirements."

*Not all of Venture Academy's programs mandate these A-G courses and may require students to select the appropriate course. Please make an appointment with your counselor if you know you want to attend a 4-year university right out of high school.

SAT/ACT IMPORTANT UPDATE (SEE BELOW)

Seniors,

In regard to taking the SAT/ACT tests, please keep in mind that the UC and CSU systems have suspended these test scores as requirements for admissions. This means that if you plan on applying to any UC or CSU, you are not required to take the SAT or ACT and, therefore, do not need to submit scores in order to be accepted to these schools.** Below you will find system-specific information. For even more information please be sure to visit your specific college’s website.

CSU:
If you have already taken and submitted your ACT or SAT scores, CSU campuses will not use them in the admission evaluation process to determine who gets admitted. If you are accepted to a CSU campus the scores will be used as one of the measures to place you in the proper mathematics and English courses.

UC:
Freshman applicants are not required to submit SAT/ACT test scores.
What does "test-optional" mean?
You choose whether or not to submit SAT/ACT scores with your application. SAT/ACT scores may be used for:
  • Scholarships. Some scholarships may include test scores as a factor in selection.
  • College course placement after you have enrolled.

**If you plan on attending a community college after high school, the SAT/ACT is also not required. For private or out of state colleges, please double check their website or speak with an admissions rep for that school's requirements.
**Some UC/CSU campus programs may require the SAT/ACT for programs that are considered impacted.
