Venture Academy Family of Schools (VAFS) provides a variety of learning settings for students. A team consisting of school staff, the parent and the student determines placement in the most appropriate setting. All programs involve some degree of Independent Study or Homeschooling. The difference is the level of support that parents and students require in order for the student to be successful. The two instructional delivery modes are Homeschool and Modified Daily Attendance (MDA).
Homeschool
Students in all grades may participate in a homeschool environment. Homeschool is enhanced through a variety of classes offered to students. When choosing this path, parents become team teachers with VAFS teachers. Teachers provide an individualized academic plan, curriculum, and educational assessment of student work. Parents augment this education plan with home and community projects and are encouraged to use the world as a classroom. Parents who choose this program for their children must be willing to provide the time to be partners in the education of their children.
All students enrolled in homeschool may be required to participate in onsite classes. Teachers, parents and students will work together to determine which classes are appropriate to ensure sufficient academic progress toward meeting state standards. Please keep in mind that students may be assigned to courses in a variety of grade levels based on skill and comprehension levels. All students are required to come on campus to complete all state mandated assessments.
Modified Daily Attendance (MDA)
In this model, students are assigned to one of the school’s academies staffed by VAFS credentialed teachers. Students receive regularly scheduled instruction, have opportunities to focus on areas of personal interest and are held responsible for completing off campus educational assignments. They attend classes, labs, workshops and meetings at the school site on a modified schedule that requires attendance Monday through Thursday. Fridays are committed to learning activities that take students out of the classroom. Students may be required by their teachers to attend certain Fridays.
